Sicily, 1999

The Sicily workshop explored Mediterranean soils influenced by volcanic activity, climate seasonality, and long-term agriculture. Participants examined soils with carbonate accumulation and complex horizon development. The community focused on refining classification criteria and improving consistency in field application. The workshop contributed to early development of WRB concepts and highlighted the importance of Mediterranean environments in soil classification.
